Also known as the "Whale Galaxy", NGC 4631 is a huge edge-on spiral galaxy which is apparently distorted by its small elliptical companion, NGC 4627. It lies at a distance of 30 million light years from Earth.


Image acquired using SBIG St-10XME camera with Astrodon filter set through 12" Meade Lx-200Gps telescope with Celestron .63x reducer.



80 minutes of Luminance, 1x1 Binning.

25 minutes each of Red, Green and Blue, 2x2 Binning.

Five minute sub-frames.
