IC 1396 is a large emission type nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. The area spans approximately 100 light years across. The nebulosity is a result of  interstellar gases being ionized by the nearby Red Giant star known as Mu Cephei or Hershel’s Garnet Star.

This star is 38,000 times brighter than our sun and is 2536 times the diameter.

Camera: QSI 683wsg-8 with Astronomik narrowband filters.

Optics: Takahashi FSQ-106

Mount: Meade Lx-200GPS

Total exposure time was 8 hours through Hydrogen-Alpha, O3 and S2 narrowband filters mapped to green, blue and red respectively.
