M 64 is estimated to be approximately 19 million light years from Earth, although speculation of the actual distance varies widely. Counter-rotating dust lanes lend to this galaxy's nickname as "The Blackeye Galaxy".


Image acquired using SBIG St-10XME camera with Astrodon filter set through 12" Meade Lx-200Gps telescope with Celestron .63x reducer.



60 minutes of Luminance, 1x1 Binning.

20 minutes each of Red, Green and Blue, 2x2 Binning.

Five minute sub-frames.
